Château La Tour de By
Château La Tour de By

Nestled in the heart of the Médoc natural park, Château La Tour de By upholds the wine-growing tradition established by Marc Pagès in 1965. The property owes its name to its lighthouse, or tower (la tour), once upon time essential aid for ships passing on the Gironde.

Château La Tour de By 2015

Situated between the ocean and estuary, this 75 hectare vineyard with its dry, filtering soil provides optimal ripening conditions for the grapes. This is the guarantee of a harmonious, deep and full-bodied wine vinified in the magnificent traditional cellar of wooden vats and aged in barrels for 12 months.

Today, Frédéric Le Clerc and Benjamin Richer de Forges ensure the ecological balance of their land and continue the work of their grandfather, while adding their own touch of modernity. The property is committed to a global approach, taking measures to maintain biodiversity and to avoid wasting water resources.

Tasting Notes

by Mélanie Brennmehl – Cave Art et Vin

Look : A deep, intense ruby red reminiscent of the colour of the skin of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes at harvest time.

Smell : The 2015 vintage is a great success in the Bordeaux vineyards, this is also confirmed at the Tour de By. The nose is expressive with an abundance of black fruits. After aeration, we sense the maturity of the chewy red fruits thanks to the presence of Merlot and Petit Verdot.

Taste : On the palate, this wine already offers an aromatic palette of ripe black fruits and spices. Structured and full-bodied, its fabric brings length in the mouth and fine tannins, giving it the potential to keep for at least ten years.

Food and wine pairing : As the holidays approach, this wine will go easily with dishes such as game in sauce, duck breast grilled on vine shoots with potatoes from the Île de Ré island, or a winter omelette with oyster mushrooms and shiitake.
